A Son of Coptic Egypt
Dr. Makary is the son of Coptic Christian Egyptian immigrants — part of Egypt’s ancient Indigenous Christian community that traces its roots back to the time of the Pharaohs and the early Church. Born in Liverpool, UK, and raised in the United States, Makary grew up deeply influenced by his father, a hematologist, and his mother, who instilled in him the values of faith, resilience, and compassion.

ينحدر الدكتور مكاري من أسرة قبطية مهاجرة من مصر – من أبناء المسيحية الأولى في مصر، وهي الجماعة الأصلية التي تعود جذورها إلى عصور الفراعنة والكنيسة الأولى. وُلد في ليفربول، إنجلترا، ونشأ في الولايات المتحدة، وتأثر كثيرًا بوالده الطبيب ووالدته التي زرعت فيه قيم الإيمان والصبر والعطاء.
ويُعتبر من قبل الكثيرين من أحفاد المصريين القدماء، حاملاً إرث القبط في مجال الطب والأخلاق والعلم.
سيرة حافلة بالعلم والإنجاز
قبل قيادته لإدارة الغذاء والدواء، عمل مكاري كجراح في مستشفى جونز هوبكنز وتخصص في جراحة الأورام. شارك في ابتكار “قائمة التحقق الجراحية” التي تُستخدم اليوم في جميع أنحاء العالم لتقليل الأخطاء الطبية.
كما عمل أستاذًا في مجال السياسات الصحية وكتب كتبًا شهيرة مثل الثمن الذي ندفعه ومن غير حساب، والتي فضحت الفساد والخلل في النظام الصحي الأمريكي، ودعت إلى الشفافية والعدالة.
